An abstract painter, Louis Stone settled in Lambertville, New Jersey from 1935. He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and at the Pennsylvania Academy with Daniel Garber. He was also a student at the Art Students League and in Munich with Hans Hofmann. From 1927 to 1933, he traveled with his wife in Europe and for a period rented Cezanne’s studio. In France, he became friends with Marsden Hartley. Stone was on the WPA mural project.
