BIO
Saul Kovner (1904-1982) was born in Russia on January 14, 1904. He settled in New York City in the 1920s. He studied at the Pratt Institute and National Academy of Design. He then maintained a studio near Central Park, taught classes, and created paintings, prints, and drawings of the city streets and their denizens. During the 1930s, he worked for the WPA project. He died in North Hollywood, CA on March 13, 1981. His works are signed only with his first name, “Saul” and are held at the Metropolitan Museum, Library of Congress, Detroit Institute of Fine Arts, and Baltimore Museum of Art.
